Blacksmith Day/Hammer In
October 7, 2023
On a sunny crisp fall day, many visitors enjoyed the Richfield Historical Society's second Blacksmith Day/Hammer In held at the Richfield Historical/Nature Park. This event relived the skills of blacksmiths long ago as they were an important element of any crossroad community.
The visitors enjoyed seeing blacksmiths demonstrating their talents as they hammered glowing metal and shaped it into a useful tool or decorative item.
Stations were set up to work with metal and wood: hammering and detailing a fish and a circle; working with wooden pegs. These activities were very popular.
Cooking outside the log cabin and shelling corn were fun activities.
Learning how maple syrup is made in the Sugar Shack always attracts visitors.
Maple cotton candy is a special treat. Also, maple syrup, handmade items and RHS t-shirts and caps were for sale.
Of course, hot dogs and beverages were available for those who were hungry.
